Vermont, the Peru Peak and Big Branch Wilderness Areas. 1st day - Long Trail from Mad Tom Notch to Griffith Lake Tenting area, 2nd day - over Baker Peak to the Old Job Trail and to Old Job Shelter. 3rd day - Old Job Trail to Griffith Lake Trail to USFS 58. 18.2 miles, moderate. Sun. 10 Oct. - Day Hike: Cockaponset State Forest, Chester.  A figure-8 hike north on the Pattaconk Trail and back on the Cockaponset Trail.  Includes a walk along the shore of the Pattaconk Reservoir.  Meet at the Cockaponset Trailhead on Rte.  148 in Chester (2.5 miles west of Rte. 9) at 10:00 a.m.  6.1 miles.  Moderate difficulty. Sat. 30 Oct. - Annual Heublein Tower Halloween Hike, West Hartford/Bloomfield. Wear orange if you have it. Fall-themed snacks are always a hit. Meet at parking lot to northeast of Reservoir Number 6 off Route 44 in W Hartford near water pumping station at 9:30 am. Hike 5-6 miles. Easy/moderate terrain. Dogs on leashes welcome.
