OCTOBER
Mon. Oct 14 - Fri. Oct 18 - Car camping & Day Hikes. Base at Taconic State Park Copake Falls NY Campground just over the border from southwest Mass. and northwest Conn. Come for the week or just a day or two. There will be several daily hikes, including Bash Bish Falls (3 miles), Sunset Rock (4-5 miles), Mt. Everett (1.5 miles), Bear Mountain (3-6 miles depending on route), the CT high point and the CT-MA-NY state corner marker on Mt. Frissell (3 miles), the Ice Glen Trail in Stockbridge MA (1.5 miles), and the Overmountain Conservation Area (3-10 miles). The paved Harlem Valley rail trail for biking up to 25 miles or walking can be accessed from the campground entrance. Contact leader for specifics on hike dates. Sat. Oct 26 Annual Heublein Tower Halloween Hike, West Hartford/Bloomfield. Wear orange if you have it. Fall-themed snacks are always a hit. Meet at parking lot to the northeast of Reservoir Number 6 off Route 44 in W Hartford near water pumping station at 9:30 am. Hike 5-6 miles. Easy/moderate terrain. Dogs on leashes welcome. Fri Nov 1 - Sun Nov 3 - Trail Maintenance - Work trip to maintain our section of the Long Trail and associated shelters. Specific projects will vary, but may include clipping brush, clearing waterbars, cutting up blowdowns, and light carpentry. Tues. Dec 10 - Day Hike Chatfield Hollow from Route 80 to River Road. 4.3 miles. Level: Moderate Meet at Chatfield Hollow Main Parking area at 10am. Will stage cars on River Rd. Looking Ahead: Sun. 12 Jan.-Tues. 14 Jan. 2025 - GMC Bolton Lodge in Bolton Valley Vermont. Two nights, enclosed rustic cabin with wood stove, bunks for 8-10 people. Hike/ski/snowshoe on Bolton Valley Nordic trails. Cabin cost $142 total, divided evenly between the number of participants. Must also purchase a BV Nordic & Backcountry pass, typically about $25. Sun. March 30 - Day Hike. Mattabesett Trail, Durham/Madison/Guildford. From the Cream Pot Road access trail, along the Mica Ledges on the Mattabesett Trail and into the Braemore Preserve.
