Fri. Oct 3 - Sun. Oct 5 - Trail Maintenance - Work trip to maintain the southern part of our section of the Long Trail. We will be based out of Kid Gore Shelter for the weekend. Projects will include improving drainage on the Long Trail and dismantling the old privy. Volunteers are responsible for their meals, and we recommend bringing a tent. Fri: Oct 10 – Sun: Oct 12 – Young Members Worcester Range camping trip. We will campout at Elmore State Park and and day hike Mount Hunger. Sat: Oct 11-Mindful Morning Hike at Crescent Lake/Metacomet Trail in Southington. Level easy. Will take a combination of trails for 2.5 miles with an elevation gain of 308 ft. Sat: Oct 25 - Annual Heublein Tower Halloween Hike, West Hartford/Bloomfield. Wear orange if you have it. Fall-themed snacks are always a hit. Meet at parking lot to the northeast of Reservoir Number 6 off Route 44 in W Hartford near water pumping station at 9:30 am. Hike 5-6 miles. Easy/moderate terrain. Dogs on leashes welcome. Thurs: Oct 30 - A dual hike in the woods. First off plans are to go into the woods of the Tefftweald Land Preserve at 282 Grindstone Hill in North Stonington, a former Girl Scout camp to talk about the past and present events at the land preserve. It will be about a 2.5 mile easy hike. We will meet there at 11am. Sadly, dogs are not allowed. Jim Moore will have just celebrated his 80th birthday so come for the fun. Next we will take a hike into the Woods of Button to discuss the past and present flavors of ice cream we have liked there. It will be an easy hike from the parking lot to the ordering stand and then with ice cream in tow, a walk to the picnic table to enjoy. Leader: Mandy Brink. Looking Ahead: Wed. 28 Jan.-Fri. 30 Jan. 2026 - GMC Bolton Lodge in Bolton Valley Vermont. Two nights, enclosed rustic cabin with wood stove, bunks for 8-10 people. Hike/ski/snowshoe on Bolton Valley Nordic trails. Cabin cost $131 total, divided evenly between the number of participants. Must also purchase a BV Nordic & Backcountry pass, typically about $25.
