Sat. 1 Oct. - Salmon River Trail, Colchester, 6.9 miles, Moderate - A lollipop trail in Salmon River State Forest and Day Pond State Park. Although almost all of the trail is in Colchester, the trailhead is in East Hampton, right by the Comstock Covered Bridge. Tues. Oct 4 - 10am. Hike to Wild Cranberry Bog in RI. Bring container for cranberries. Meet at trailhead parking on Canonchet Rd, Hope Valley. Wear some bright orange as it's hunting season. Sun. 9 Oct. - Mon. 10 Oct: Full Moon Backpack. New York A.T., Route 22 to Wiley Shelter. 5.7 miles one way with one moderate elevation gain. Shelter, two wood tent platforms and other level camping areas. Pump handle has been removed so we'll need to carry in water. Option for short hike in/out from the CT side. Level: moderate. Wednesday Oct 19- Last call for Buttonwoods Day Hike. Meet at 10 am at Green Falls State Park to hike Nehantic Trail to Pachaug youth area. 5.5 miles. Fri. Oct. 21 -Sun. 23 Oct. -Kinsman Notch U.S. 112 - Franconia Notch U.S. 3 Drive up on Fri. stage cars. Hike from Rte. 3 into Kinsman Pond Shelter 4.8 miles. Sat. Oct. 22 hike to Eliza Brook Shelter 4 miles a short day but a tough climb and the days are getting shorter. Sun. Oct. 23 hike out to U.S. 112 Kinsman Notch 7.5 collect car ar Rte. 3 and drive home. Sat. 29 Oct. - Annual Heublein Tower Halloween Hike, West Hartford/Bloomfield. Wear orange if you have it. Fall-themed snacks are always a hit. Meet at parking lot to the northeast of Reservoir Number 6 off Route 44 in W Hartford near water pumping station at 9:30 am. Hike 5-6 miles. Easy/moderate terrain. Dogs on leashes welcome.
